植物名。禾本科玉蜀黍屬，一年生草本植物。一株只生一莖稈，無分枝，有節，內中實。葉互生，呈平行脈。花單性，雌雄同株，雌蕊呈穗狀花序。通常每株有二至四個雌蕊花穗，生於主稈接近頂端的兩側，果實也稱為「玉蜀黍」即包含其中，呈齒狀排列。品種繁多，世界各地均有栽種。
