植物名。胡麻科胡麻屬，一年生草本。高達一點五公尺，莖方形，基部木質化。葉長呈橢圓形或卵形，對生或互生。花通常單生於葉腋，表面有毛，向側方下垂；花萼小，花冠呈脣形筒狀，色白。果實為長橢圓形之蒴角，熟後縱裂，種子小而扁平，有白色及黑色等數種。嫩葉可食，種子則可供食用或榨油。產於中國、印度、非洲等地。
