一种商业的投机行为。对象多为股票、公债、外币、黄金及商品等。即预料价格要涨就先买进，等涨价时再卖出，称为「买空」。如果预期价格要跌就先卖出，等跌时再买进，则称为「卖空」。其目的就是赚取中间的差额，特色是不必拿出足够的现钱现货来，仅须缴出一定比率的证据金，作为履行交割的担保就可以实施交易了。
