過繼

guòjì

to adopt
to give for adoption (usually to a childless relative)

to adopt a young relative
to give one's child to a relative for adoption; to have one's child adopted by a relative

自己没有儿子而以兄弟、亲戚或他人之子为后嗣，称为「过继」。《初刻拍桉惊奇．卷一七》：「府尹道：『你还有别的儿子或是过继的否？』」也作「过房」。
