CEDICT

本指在战场上击鼓敲锣，以壮声势。《孤本元明杂剧．午时牌．第二折》：「我今日传了将令，则要您记的叮咛：也不许摇旗呐喊，也不许擂鼓鸣金。」后用以比喻大张其事。如：「这不过是一件小事，不须要擂鼓鸣金，弄得人尽皆知。」也作「擂鼓筛锣」。
