曹操率兵行軍至途中，士兵乾渴難耐，曹操就騙士兵前有梅林，梅子又酸又甜，誘使士兵流出口水以解渴的故事。典出南朝宋．劉義慶《世說新語．假譎》。後比喻用空想來安慰自己。《警世通言．卷三四．王嬌鸞百年長恨》：「鸞拆書看了，雖然不曾定個來期，也當畫餅充飢，望梅止渴。」《初刻拍案驚奇．卷一五》：「卻那裡得這銀子來！只好望梅止渴，畫餅充飢。」也作「說梅止渴」、「望梅消渴」。
