在文句中，用来分别句读和标明词句性质、种类的符号。民国八年，教育部颁行新式标点符号，后因历时已久，复受外来因素影响，致使用上颇生歧异。为求用法统一，及便于学习，遂于民国七十六年再颁布重订标点符号手册，内容大抵沿用新式标点符号的名称，而略加更动。共收有句号（。）、逗号（，）、顿号（、）、分号（；）、冒号(:)、引号（「」、『』）、夹注号（－－）、问号（？）、惊叹号（！）、破折号（──)、删节号（……）、书名号（﹏﹏）、专名号（ˍˍ）、音界号（．）等十四种。
