植物名。壳斗科麻栎属。共约四百种，依树皮颜色可分为红橡、白橡两大类。多分布于北半球温带地区。叶芽外有许多坚硬的鳞片保护。果实为橡实，果皮坚硬，内含种子，可做猪、鸟等的饲料。木材可做家具、地板、枕木。某些树皮可提炼单宁，或做木塞。
