  1. 古時帝王離開京城，命太子或重臣代為守國，稱為「留守」。
  2. 職官名。唐太宗時初置京城留守之職，五代時洛陽或開封亦置之。宋代沿之，西北南三京皆置此官，專掌宮鑰及京城修葺等事。歷代沿用，至清代時廢置。
  3. 留下來駐守。
