  1. 古时帝王离开京城，命太子或重臣代为守国，称为「留守」。
  2. 职官名。唐太宗时初置京城留守之职，五代时洛阳或开封亦置之。宋代沿之，西北南三京皆置此官，专掌宫钥及京城修葺等事。历代沿用，至清代时废置。
  3. 留下来驻守。
