病名。由白喉桿菌引起的急性傳染病，以咽頭、喉頭為主要患部。症狀包括發燒、咽喉腫脹、失音、呼吸困難或嚴重虛脫等，最明顯的症狀是在咽、喉部位產生一層白膜，故稱為「白喉」。可使用抗生素或注射抗毒血清治療，預防的方法以接種白喉疫苗最為有效。
