ultrasound (sound with a frequency greater than the upper limit of human hearing)

人耳所能聽到的聲波頻率在二十赫到兩萬赫之間，故稱頻率高於兩萬赫的聲波為「超音波」。超音波的波長比普通音波短，在空氣中易被吸收，因此傳播距離短。由於它的定向性較好，近來被廣泛用於魚群、冰山、潛艇、深水、金屬缺陷及人體病理的偵測上。
