ultrasound (sound with a frequency greater than the upper limit of human hearing)

人耳所能听到的声波频率在二十赫到两万赫之间，故称频率高于两万赫的声波为「超音波」。超音波的波长比普通音波短，在空气中易被吸收，因此传播距离短。由于它的定向性较好，近来被广泛用于鱼群、冰山、潜艇、深水、金属缺陷及人体病理的侦测上。
