南北朝時，有一僧名為阿專師，常來往於宴會、遊戲場所。後因故得罪人，被追捕而騎坐在牆上，等確定對方真要抓他時，才以杖擊牆升上數十仞避之。見《太平廣記．卷九一．阿專師》。後用以比喻對兩方面都討好，立場不明，態度模稜兩可。
