抑止呼吸，不能出聲。形容敬謹畏懼的樣子。《論語．鄉黨》：「攝齊升堂，鞠躬如也，屏氣似不息者。」《後漢書．卷七七．酷吏傳．陽球傳》：「球既誅甫，復欲以次表曹節等，乃敕中都官從事曰：『且先去大猾，當次案豪石。』權門聞之，莫不屏氣。」也作「屏息」。
