  1. 佛教用語：(1)佛教批評外道所做的種種自虐行為。《雜阿含經．卷三九》：「知諸修苦行，皆與無義俱。」(2)為了斷除煩惱，而嚴格約束身心種種不善欲望的修行。即十二頭陀行，如日中一食、穿糞掃衣等。《央掘魔羅經．卷一》：「出家學道行沙門法，受行十二頭陀苦行。」
  2. 預備出家，但尚未落髮，而在寺廟中做苦役的人。
