战国时，齐宣王喜听吹竽之声，且每次都要求三百人合吹。有位南郭处士，不会吹竽，但却溷杂其中，享受很好的待遇。宣王死后，愍王继位，他喜欢听一个人独吹，南郭先生衹好逃走。典出《韩非子．内储说上》。比喻没有真才实学的人，溷在行家中充数；或比喻以不好的东西冒充场面；有时也用于自谦之辞。
